Custom handmade rug after Theo van Doesburg‘s painting Heka Poster (Archer)
This handmade rug brings to life van Doesburg’s dynamic Heka Poster—a bold, geometric composition from 1919. The archer figure, built from sharp blue and black forms, radiates structure and motion in equal measure. Every angle and line has purpose. The rug feels architectural, assertive, and clean, yet entirely human in its rhythm.
Perfect for collectors drawn to graphic clarity and the quiet power of abstraction, this piece adds not just art to a space, but presence. A striking work that holds its own in both minimal and richly layered interiors.

About the artwork this rug is inspired on: Heka Poster (Archer)
Theo van Doesburg created The Archer around 1919 as part of a visual identity concept for Hagemeyer & Co. It is believed to have originated from earlier label designs for Klaverweide cheese and evolved into a poster prototype. The image also reappears in later architectural sketches and product packaging.
Composed entirely of angular planes, the archer demonstrates De Stijl’s signature principles: reduction, balance, clarity. The figure’s motion—tense, drawn, focused—emerges from the intersection of vertical and horizontal energies. Though promotional in intent, this composition speaks to the deeper De Stijl ambition: to integrate art, industry, and architecture into one pure visual language.
About the artist: Theo van Doesburg
“Art as language….in the future there will only be art. This common language will carry the message of love.”
Theo van Doesburg
Theo van Doesburg (1883–1931) was a Dutch artist, designer, and visionary who co-founded the De Stijl movement alongside Piet Mondrian. His work is known for geometric precision, primary colors, and a disciplined harmony that influenced modern art, design, and architecture.
Originally influenced by Van Gogh and the Amsterdam Impressionists, van Doesburg shifted toward abstraction after reading Kandinsky. He believed in art as a means to express pure ideas—using line, color, and form to achieve universal balance.
In 1922, he brought De Stijl to the Bauhaus in Weimar, expanding its influence across disciplines. He collaborated with major figures like Sophie Taeuber-Arp, El Lissitzky, and Kurt Schwitters, bridging modernism and Dada while staying rooted in structure and clarity.
His works—now housed in MoMA, Centre Pompidou, and Stedelijk—remain a testament to the power of reduction, rhythm, and refined form.
