Custom handmade rug after Paul Klee‘s painting Heroic Roses
Twelve carefully chosen shades (deep greens, browns, reds, purples, and black) are custom-dyed to reflect the quiet intensity of Heroic Roses (1938). Each tone is softened, almost matte, holding the emotional weight of the original work with grace.
The yarn is then woven by hand using your preferred technique, resulting in a rug that brings the strength, delicacy, and resilience of Klee’s composition into your home.
This rug captures the details and character of the original painting by Paul Klee, making your rug a stunning work of art in its own right.
What sets our rugs apart is that they are the utmost respectful and truthful handcrafted translation of the masterpiece artworks they are based on.

About the artwork this rug is inspired on: Heroic Roses
Painted in 1938, in the final years of Paul Klee’s life, Heroic Roses carries a quiet dignity. It was created during a period of illness, exile, and reflection—yet it is not a painting of despair.
The stylised flowers, formed through bold verticals and earth-toned abstractions, appear both still and strong. It is a composition of balance and memory. A last offering, perhaps, of poetic resilience.
Translating this work into a handmade rug preserves that essence: layered, grounded, and filled with inward light.
About the artist: Paul Klee
“Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet.”
Paul Klee
Born in 1879 near Bern, Swiss artist Paul Klee grew up immersed in music and art. His path brought him from Munich to Tunisia, from the Parisian avant-garde to the Bauhaus, where he taught alongside Kandinsky and Feininger.
Klee’s fascination with colour, structure, and the poetic unseen led to an extraordinary body of work, now exhibited worldwide.
Today, his vision lives on—not only in museums, but in your home, transformed into a one-of-a-kind handmade rug.
