Custom handmade rug after Robert Delaunay‘s painting Rythme 1 (1934)
This luminous custom handmade rug is inspired by Robert Delaunay’s Rythme 1 (1934) — a radiant symphony of colour, form, and flow. We have translated Delaunay’s vibrant circular composition into a contemporary rug that brings movement and light into your space.
Each arc and hue has been thoughtfully interpreted to preserve the artist’s original energy, while embracing the tactile beauty of wool. The design radiates outward in rhythmic colour bands — red, orange, lemon yellow, apple green, violet, and blue — all layered over a soft, pale background that enhances their intensity without overwhelming. The result is both dynamic and grounding, bold yet balanced.
This rug is more than a visual piece — it is an atmosphere. Its presence enlivens a room, animates a hallway, or defines a serene creative corner. Whether as a large statement rug or a more intimate size, it brings with it the spirit of pure colour in motion.

About the artwork this rug is inspired on: Rythme 1 (1934)
Delaunay’s Rythme 1 is part of his lifelong fascination with colour and its capacity to generate movement, feeling, and meaning. In this work, concentric circles overlap and intersect, creating not only a visual rhythm but a sense of infinite expansion.
Rather than anchoring the eye to a central point, the composition draws you outward, in constant flux. The painting is often described as ‘musical’ — not because of any literal reference, but because of the way the colours and forms seem to resonate and echo like chords and harmonies.
By reimagining Rythme 1 as a handmade rug, we honour its pulse and poetry — transforming it into a living, tactile experience.
About the artist: Robert Delaunay
“Our understanding is correlative to our perception.”
Robert Delaunay
Robert Delaunay (1885–1941) was a French painter whose joyful exploration of colour and movement helped shape the very foundations of modern abstract art. A visionary among the pioneers of the early 20th century, Delaunay saw colour as something living — not merely a pigment on canvas, but a force that could express rhythm, light, and the spirit of modern life.
His signature style, later called Orphism, weaves together geometry and luminosity with a musical sensibility — paintings that feel as if they are pulsing, breathing, almost dancing before your eyes. As art critic Robert Hughes once wrote, “Delaunay’s art was a continuous exploration of the vitality, power, and sheer beauty of colour.”
During his lifetime, his work was shown in leading exhibitions across Europe and the United States. Today, his paintings continue to energize rooms and minds alike — not only through their dazzling chromatic balance but through the sensation they leave behind: a sense of openness, optimism, and possibility.
