About the artwork this rug is inspired on: Fire in the Evening
A red fire glows like a beacon in a desert at day’s end, recalling Klee’s journey along the Nile. The horizontal and vertical tensions—delicate, deliberate—speak to his lifelong inquiry into balance and structure.
In a Bauhaus lecture in 1921, Klee described it this way:
“A Sense of Equilibrium, an element of artistic creation…When the base widens, the horizontal widens with it at the expense of the vertical. A very considerable relaxation occurs then, an epic moment in relationship to the dramatic character of the vertical. Which obviously does not exclude an evaluation of the thrusts from each side of the axis. The vertical is always present! The weight of the forces is only excluded at the moment the diagonal disappears and the balance is immobilized, as, for example, in the case of the most primitive rhythm of the structure in which only horizontals or verticals are present.”
This artwork brings that equilibrium into your space: steady, luminous, alive.
About the artist: Paul Klee
“Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet.”
Paul Klee
Born in 1879 near Bern, Swiss artist Paul Klee grew up immersed in music and art. His path brought him from Munich to Tunisia, from the Parisian avant-garde to the Bauhaus, where he taught alongside Kandinsky and Feininger.
Klee’s fascination with colour, structure, and the poetic unseen led to an extraordinary body of work, now exhibited worldwide.
Today, his vision lives on—not only in museums, but in your home, transformed into a one-of-a-kind handmade rug.
